A bounded optimal control strategy for strongly non-linear systems under non-white wide-band random excitation with actuator saturation is proposed. First, the stochastic averaging method is introduced for controlled strongly non-linear systems under wide-band random excitation using generalized harmonic functions. Then, the dynamical programming equation for the saturated control problem is formulated from the partially averaged Itō equation based on the dynamical programming principle. The optimal control consisting of the unbounded optimal control and the bounded bang-bang control is determined by solving the dynamical programming equation. Finally, the response of the optimally controlled system is predicted by solving the reduced Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equation associated with the completed averaged Itō equation. An example is given to illustrate the proposed control strategy. Numerical results show that the proposed control strategy has high control effectiveness and efficiency and the chattering is reduced significantly comparing with the bang-bang control strategy.
An optimization method for time-delayed feedback control of partially observable linear building structures subjected to seismic excitation is proposed. A time-delayed control problem of partially observable linear building structure under horizontal ground acceleration excitation is formulated and converted into that of completely observable linear structure by using separation principle. The time-delayed control forces are approximately expressed in terms of control forces without time delay. The control system is then governed by Itoe stochastic differential equations for the conditional means of system states and then transformed into those for the conditional means of modal energies by using the stochastic averaging method for quasi-Hamiltonian systems. The control law is assumed to be modal velocity feedback control with time delay and the unknown control gains are determined by the modal performance indices. A three-storey building structure is taken as example to illustrate the proposal method and the numerical results are confirmed by using Monte Carlo simulation.
A modified nonlinear stochastic optimal bounded control strategy for random excited hysteretic systems with actuator saturation is proposed. First, a controlled hysteretic system is converted into an equivalent nonlinear nonhysteretic stochastic system. Then, the partially averaged Itoe stochastic differential equation and dynamical programming equation are established, respectively, by using the stochastic averaging method for quasi non-integrable Hamiltonian systems and stochastic dynamical programming principle, from which the optimal control law consisting of optimal unbounded control and bang-bang control is derived. Finally, the response of optimally controlled system is predicted by solving the Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equation associated with the fully averaged Itoe equation. Numerical results show that the proposed control strategy has high control effectiveness and efficiency.
It is known that the solution to a Cauchy problem of linear differential equations:x'(t)=A(t)x(t),with x(t0)=x0,can be presented by the matrix exponential as exp(∫_(t0)^(t)A(s)ds)x0,if the commutativity condition for the coefficient matrix A(t)holds:[∫_(t0)^(t)A(s)ds,A(t)]=0.A natural question is whether this is true without the commutativity condition. To give a definite answer to this question,we present two classes of illustrative examples of coefficient matrices, which satisfy the chain rule d/dt exp(∫_(t0)^(t)A(s)ds)=A(t)exp(∫_(t0)^(t)A(s)ds),but do not possess the commutativity condition. The presented matrices consist of finite-times continuously differentiable entries or smooth entries.
An optimal vibration control strategy for partially observable nonlinear quasi Hamiltonian systems with actuator saturation is proposed. First,a controlled partially observable non-linear system is converted into a completely observable linear control system of finite dimension based on the theorem due to Charalambous and Elliott. Then the partially averaged It stochastic differential equations and dynamical programming equation associated with the completely observable linear system are derived by using the stochastic averaging method and stochastic dynamical programming principle, respectively. The optimal control law is obtained from solving the final dynamical programming equation. The results show that the proposed control strategy has high control effectiveness and control effciency.
