We investigate the pump-depleted model of a dual-pump fiber optical parametric amplifier(FOPA) with Raman effect. As bandwidth increases, the gain profile of the distorted FOPA would be impacted seriously.Under the widebands, especially when the pump separation is large, zero dispersion wavelength(ZDW) fluctuation is another factor which can not be neglected.Numerical simulations with these comprehensive factors are mainly analyzed to obtain their influence on gain characteristics.Saturated gain spectrum is also discussed in detail.
The conversion efficiency and noise figure (NF) of the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguide-based wavelength converter are investigated with the coupled equations. The effects of the pump power, the nonlinear absorption and the waveguide length on the conversion efficiency and noise figure are discussed. The conversion efficiency decreases with the increasing pump power and the noise figure is degraded due to the two-photon absorption (TPA) and the TPA-induced free-carrier absorption (FCA) at the higher pump power. With the increasing of the free carrier lifetime, the conversion efficiency will decrease and the noise figure will increase accordingly. The optimal waveguide length depends on the pump power and the free carrier lifetime. In practical applications, the high conversion efficiency and low noise figure can be achieved by choosing suitable parameters of the silicon waveguide.
Because of the zero dispersion wavelength (ZDWL) random fluctuations, the gain and noise figures deteriorate in optical parametric amplifiers based on highly nonlinear fibers (HNLFs). The detrimental role of ZDWL fluctuations on the gain and noise performance in dual-pump fiber optical parametric amplifiers (FOPAs) is presented. Numerical investigations of noise figure (NF) for different fibers with random fluctuation are analyzed. The noise figures for different fibers are varying even if the random fluctuation is small. Through choosing HNLFs with low ZDWL fluctuation and large nonlinear coefficient, high-gain and low-noise performance can be obtained.
By adjusting the polarisation state of the pump at 805 nm parallel to slow (x) and fast (y) axes of the highly birefringent photonic crystal fibre with zero dispersion wavelengths 790 nm and 750 nm, this paper demonstrates the efficient polarisation-sensitive four wave mixing involved in pump, anti-Stokes and Stokes signals and soliton self- frequency shift effects induced by the phase-matching between red-shifted solitons and blue-shifted dispersive waves. If the reduction of coupling efficiency to the circular pump laser mode or other circular fibres due to asymmetry of the core is neglected, more than 98% of the total input power is kept in a single linear polarisation. Controlled dispersion characteristic of the doublet of fundamental guided-modes results in achieving light field strongly confined in principal axes of photonic crystal fibre, and enhancing the corresponding nonlinear-optical process through the remarkable nonlinear birefringence.
