Giant enhancement of Kerr rotation in two-dimensional Bismuth iron garnet/Ag photonic crystals

Kerr effects of two-dimensional (2D) Bismuth iron garnet (BIG)/Ag photonic crystals (PCs) combined magnetic and plasmonic functionalities is investigated with the effective medium theory. An analytical expression of Kerr rotation angles is derived, in which the effects of the surface pasmons polaritons (SPP) on magneto--optical (MO) activities are reflected. The largest enhancement of Kerr rotation up to now is demonstrated, which is improved three orders of magnitude compared with that of BIG film. When λ 〈 750 nm all of the reflection are over 10% for the arbitrary filling ratio fl, in addition, the enhancement of Kerr rotation angles are at least one order of magnitude.

High sum-frequency generation in dielectric/antiferromagnet/Ag sandwich structures被引量:1

We present a method to increase the sum-frequency (SF) outputs in dielectric/antiferromagnet(AF)/Ag sandwich structures for a fixed input power. Two incident waves simultaneously illuminate the upper surface, one is oblique and the other is normal to it. Numerical calculations based on the SiO2/MnF2/Ag and ZnF2/MnF2/Ag structures show that the SF outputs on the upper film increase a few times as compared to those of a single AF film when the thickness of the AF film is one-quarter of the vacuum wavelength. Moreover, the SF outputs generated near the higher resonant frequency will be higher than those obtained near the lower resonant frequency. An optimum AF film thickness is achieved through investigating its effect on the SF outputs in the two different dielectric sandwich structures.

Narrowband perfect terahertz absorber based on polar-dielectrics metasurface

We theoretically propose a narrowband perfect absorber metasurface(PAMS) based on surface phonon polaritons in the terahertz range. The PAMS has unit cell consisting of a silver biarc on the top, a thin polar-dielectric in the middle and a silver layer at the bottom. The phonon polaritons are excited at the interface between the silver biarc and the polar dielectric, and enhance the absorption of the PAMS. The absorption peak is at 36.813 μm and the full width half maximum(FWHM) is nearly 36 nm, independent of the polarization and incidence angle. The electric fields are located at the split of the biarc silver layer and the quality factor Q is 1150. The FWHM decreases with the decreasing split width. When the thickness of the bottom layer is larger than 50 nm, the narrow band and high absorption are insensitive to the thickness of those layers. The designed absorber may have useful applications in terahertz spectra such as energy harvesting, thermal emitter, and sensing.
