The textile economy in China maintained its good Performance in the first four months of 2001: the production and marketing grew at fast speed, exports continued to grow but with slower monthly growth rate and the profit was further improved, though the profit of State-owned enterprises declined. However, there are still many problems to be solved: the problems concerning raw material prices-cotton prices rocketed while chemical fiber Prices dropped remarkably; the problems concerning Stateowned enterprises (SOEs)-unpredictable conditions of SOEs after reform and poor ability against risks on market than those enterprises with other ownership; problems concerning the international market environment-economic downturn of the United States, recession of Japanese economy, slowdown of the world economic growth and drawback of international trade. After discussing the above-mentioned topics, the icicle also forecasts the development trend of the textile industry in 200l and makes relevant suggestions.
