The existing textbook used in Intensive Reading class in English Department of Qingdao University of Science and Technology is not satisfactory according to an investigation made by the authors. The investigation shows: the texts are too easy, and monotonous both in content and style. Due to this, teachers also have the difficulty to teach this course in an interesting way. In this article, suggestions are made both on the change of textbook and teaching methods. Even the abolition of this course is considered, although there are difficulties. Intensive Reading should be a real effective and practical course in regard of the time spent and effort made by students.
