It has been convincingly testified and generally accepted that engaging ESL learners in task-based communicative activities benefits them a lot. However, although there has been an increasing amount written about the roles of task-based activities in language classroom, there remains a lack of detailed description of its application to large heterogeneous classes, which is often the reality of foreign language teaching in China. This paper investigates the nature of task-based activities and large classes, aiming to employing task-based activities of various forms and organizations in large ESL classroom. Finally, two strategies about the implementation are discussed for the purpose of improving learners' comprehensive abilities in using English.
