Palmer's theory of cultural linguistics suggests innovative solutions to old problems in anthropology and new directions for research of linguistics. Cultural linguistics is getting accepted as a theoretical framework for intercultural communication study. The paper offers an introduction to the emergence of the cognitive linguistics. Then it gives a brief account of the cultural linguistics, which is the synthesis of the three traditions in linguistic anthropology and cognitive linguistics. The last part involves the implications drawn from cultural linguistics for intercultural communication. Intercultural miscommunication may occur when meanings are supported by different cultural schemas.Identifying cultural schemas enables us to get both an inside and outside view of our native culture.
